Sue Lewis - Homespun From Devon

I am a textile artist living in Devon in the South West of the UK.
Ever since I was old enough to remember I always had pens, pencils and a pad of paper in my hand.
I studied art at school and went on to train in graphic design.
Over the years I have also developed a love of textiles, so after a break to bring up my children I have returned to my first love, art, but this time combined with textiles.
Having read an article about wet felting, suitably intrigued, and unable to find any local classes, I taught myself. I was immediately hooked with this method of 'painting with wool'.
As I got more experienced I introduced freestyle stitching to my pieces and started to hand dye fleece to add texture. Using locally sourced, rare breed fleece is important to me.
There's a certain satisfaction to collecting fleece straight from the sheep, washing it, hand dying it and transforming it into beautiful artwork.
I take my inspiration from nature and the beautiful scenery of rural Devon, especially the rugged landscapes of the Dartmoor National Park.
My work is available at galleries throughout Devon and I also take commissions via my Facebook page.
