My name is Monica Stadalski and I’m a freelance artist living in Upstate NY about 30 minutes outside the Canadian border. I grew up a military brat and spent most of my childhood and early adulthood growing up in the interior of Alaska, which is why I feel so at home when I’m surrounded by nature. I’m a bit of a late bloomer and didn’t start exploring art until I was in my twenties although as a child my crayons and coloring books were always by my side, and now 20 years later I’m still learning and exploring.
My artwork has seen many different iterations from charcoal, graphite, oil painting, pastels and now I work mostly in mixed media and watercolor, with a very loose intuitive style. I have sold work internationally, painted murals, participated in street painting festivals, created commission work, worked in graphic design and taught art to both adults and children. I’ve also created large fabric wall hangings, and have participated and placed in national exhibitions and was the featured artist on our PBS station.
These varied experiences in the art world are invaluable and have made me the artist I am today. I love passing on the knowledge that I’ve attained over the years to encourage people to include creativity in their own lives. I am a firm believer in using art as therapy and as a meditative practice, which is why you’ll see much of my own spirituality infused into my artwork. Symbolism and color each plays a large part in what I create, which is how I like to make a connection with the viewer and convey a specific message.
Currently, I am now a full-time artist and online creative instructor, with classes available on my website and Skillshare. I am also working on a large series of mudras, or yogic hand gesture paintings. Each mudra facilitates the flow of energy in the body in a different way, which I try to capture in the use of color and embellishments.
Each painting has its own metallic detailing, whether in gold or silver which I also add to each print.
My prints are available for purchase on my website.
