Eleni Kastrinogianni - Coocoovaya
My name is Eleni Kastrinogianni and I am a self-taught artist living in Athens, Greece, where I live with my husband, our two kids and our dog.
I create unique, bold colored animal portraits and vibrant paintings of everyday things that inspire me. My paintings have a childlike, naive yet sophisticated style making them attractive to both children and adults.
I work primarily in acrylics but love to experiment with inks, pencils, spray paint and collage. My paintings are characterized by vivid colors, energetic lines and a rich background created by applying many layers of paint. I enjoy using non traditional tools when painting such as my hands, credit cards, brayers, toothbrushes, sponges, stencils, toothpicks, bubble wrap. I spray water on wet paint, drip, splatter, sprinkle and turn the canvas upside down to create a textured surface. My works change constantly from the beginning until the final piece, emerging in unexpected ways.
Inspired by my artist grandmother, I have been creating art in various forms throughout my life. My true artistic journey however begun after the birth of my son when I started painting to decorate the nursery. Since then painting has been an essential part of my life. I prefer working on the floor of my art studio (which is basically my living room) and I usually paint in the darkest hours. But my art is far from dark. Animal portraits filled with color, quirky, vivid, whimsical paintings which I hope will bring a smile to your face.
