Sarah Mead - Art at The Fruit Farm
My name is Sarah Mead and I live in a small market town near Cambridge, UK, with my husband, three children and an assortment of animals. I have always been inspired by my late grandmother, Dodo, who was wildly artistic.
A theatrical costumier, she had a house full of bright fabrics, the odd ostrich feather and outside had the most wonderful fairytale garden.
I spent many hours in the garden; it was full of fruit, flowers, trees, birds, ponds and many creepy crawly things. I knew from an early age that my career path would be hands-on and would more than likely revolve around plants and flowers. I trained as a Botanical Illustrator at The Chelsea Physic Garden and was a founding member of The Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society. This formal training, combined with my love for detail (quirky and tiny), resulted in my style of illustrations which are always brightly coloured, very informal and full of love and life. I also love making jewellery, mainly using silver and precious stones.
Some of the pieces that I make incorporate beads made by other Etsy sellers, which adds to their unique look. You may sometimes find other forms of art on my pages, like many artists I can’t resist trying new things, sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t!
I hope you enjoy my work and get as much joy from looking at the pieces as I do from creating them.
