Hello, my name is Aileen and I work from my little cottage in rural Fife in Scotland. I make a wide range of Fibre Art and Textile Jewellery as well as Textile Trinket Boxes. I have a passion for the sea which I try to incorporate into my textile, glass and resin jewellery. I also like to get a bit of sparkle into my felt making and often use iridescent beads to compliment the felt and lots of shimmering silks to add a sumptuous sheen to the finished pieces. I love colour and texture and love to get lots of it into my work. There is also a spontaneity and sense of adventure with felt making in that you don't know exactly how things will turn out until the process is finished. Experimenting with new fibres and colours is always exciting for me.
Over the years I have traveled extensively around Scotland and Ireland. The natural colours in the landscape never cease to amaze me and the relationship between natural dyed fibres and the land fascinates me. I use hand dyed fibre from the Orkney Isles and hand spun yarn from all over the country in some of my work.
I also adore Harris Tweed and include it quite often in my pictures, trinket boxes and brooches.
Over the past few years my Aileen Clarke Crafts business has expanded thanks to the internet and taking part in great events locally such as Open Studios North Fife, various Makers Markets and The Handmade Show in Perth. I enjoy using social media to keep in touch with people from all over the world. It's wonderful to be able to connect to the creative community online and with those who are interested in my work.
