Saving endangered handmade textiles
Reviving + reinterpreting disappearing handcrafts
Employing local women artisans
Promoting cultural exchange between Turkey + our global visitors
Partners Catherine and Abit Bayar's home decor and fiber arts workshop is located in the historic peninsula of Istanbul.
Catherine, a California native textile and interior designer, and Abit, an avid collector born in Mardin and raised in Aegean Turkey, love the ancient energy of the Old City.
Especially the Bazaar District, where Turkish handmade traditions are being overrun with imports from countries with cheap labor and questionable quality.
To counter this threat, Bazaar Bayar repurposes vintage Turkish carpets and kilim remnants into colorful rugs.
Bazaar Bayar also makes hand knit throws and pillow covers in a variety of natural Turkish yarns from women artisans: one-of-a-kind mohair blends, hand dyed wool, or silverized cotton.
To help foster appreciation for handmade, Catherine and Abit offer visitors and locals hands-on time with fiber arts workshops, knit retreats and craft + culture trips to the Southeast and Aegean regions of Turkey.
All Folt Bolt followers are offered a 15% discount for ANY rug in our etsy shop, through the 19th of October.
