Renata Brenner - Felted Flora

My name is Renata Brenner.
I live in an old farmhouse atop Spencer Hill in rural upstate New York.
Several years ago when a rare genetic disorder forced me to retire early from teaching Biology, I taught myself how to knit and quickly began designing my own patterns.
My love of nature and my creative spirit emerge in everything I do; from painting and cooking to all aspects of fiber arts.
At first I knitted and designed mostly botanically inspired lace shawls, and made a few hand knitted and felted hats for friends and family as gifts.
Then, I stumbled upon Nora J Bellows’ book Noni Flowers and was enthralled by her botanically accurate three dimensional knitted flower patterns, but disappointed that there were no patterns for leaves or buds.
I was inspired to try knitting leaves and buds freehand and quickly discovered, much to my delight, that I could also knit my own flowers freehand.
I am filled with such joy and wonder as I watch each new flower emerge from my needles. I have had such an overwhelmingly positive response to my hats that I decided to open my new etsy store, Felted Flora.
I hope my creations bring you as much joy as I feel making them.
If you convo me and mention you found me through Folt Bolt, I will include a paper mache hat box free of charge. Offer ends: 30th of September.
